These statements from 11 hunger activists give a wide scope of answers to the basic question: "Why have you continued working for many years on hunger issues when there is little money, not much glory, no power and few results? The answers are varied: moral indignation; anger; sense of community; compassion; need to mobilize against public apathy and the status quo; "accidentally" being there; a means toward social/economic change; and self realization.
